washing lines is a visual project which reflects on a first-hand experience with bereavement, seeking to abstract and re-present the complex and enduring feelings associated with the loss of a loved one, and the ways in which feelings of grief can be suddenly and inexplicably triggered even long after that person is gone. Taking inspiration from the motif of the washing line as seen throughout my own family archive, this project combines photography, photographic archives and found objects (in the form of clothing) to present a series of understated images which gently encourage a thoughtful and reflective mood among viewers.
